Parental psychological abuse and control in the personal and the social domains: comparison of U.S. and Japanese samples.
Summary: Reports on a cross-cultural study looking at adolescents’ experiences of psychological control and abuse by their parents both in the home and outside it. Explores the role of personal autonomy in the different domains. Suggests that control of the personal domain is a component of psychological abuse.
