The National Education Trust has published a survey of early intervention programmes used in 36 children’s centres in London. Findings include: only 13% of programmes were evidence based; and the main barrier to delivering evidence based intervention was the cost of staff training and families’ need for flexibility.

Ofsted has published a memorandum of understanding between Ofsted and the Department for Education

Ofsted has published a memorandum of understanding between Ofsted and the Department for Education which extends their responsibility for monitoring secure children’s homes in England. Ofsted will advise the DfE on whether to place under-13s in SCHs, decide which notifications of serious incidents should be flagged up to the Secretary of State, and take responsibility for the approval of premises for use as SCHs.

The NSPCC has published a report about children returning home from care.

The NSPCC has published a report about children returning home from care. Findings include: the most common outcome for children leaving care is to return home to a parent or relative, and around half of children who come into care because of abuse or neglect suffer further abuse if they return home. Recommendations include: publish data about the outcomes for children who return home from care, and improve the support available to children and families before and following a return home.
